Ingredients
  

  • 4 salmon fillets skin on
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 green onion sliced
  • ΒΌ tsp black pepper
  • Oil for searing vegetable or avocado oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the marinade
    In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, olive oil, minced garlic, sliced green onion, and black pepper until well combined.

  • Marinate the salmon
    Place the salmon fillets in a baking dish and pour the marinade over them. Turn the fillets to coat them evenly, then let them marinate for 15–30 minutes.

  • Pan-sear the salmon
    Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a small amount of oil.
    Place the marinated salmon in the hot skillet and sear until golden brown and caramelized, then carefully flip and cook until the salmon is tender, flaky, and cooked through. Spoon the flavorful pan juices over the salmon before serving.

Notes

  • Pat the salmon dry before marinating and again before searing for better browning.
  • Marinate for 15–30 minutes; avoid marinating for several hours because the salt and acidity can affect the fish's texture.
  • Make sure the skillet is properly hot before adding the salmon to create a golden caramelized crust.
  • Sear the salmon skin-side down first if using skin-on fillets.
  • Avoid moving the salmon while the first side is searing so it develops a good crust.
  • Use a meat thermometer if you want to check the salmon's doneness precisely.
  • Let the salmon rest for 1–2 minutes before serving
